Invitation to the March 19th Panel Discussion on Human Rights in Zimbabwe

ou are invited to a panel discussion on human rights in Zimbabwe on Friday, March 19^th, 2010. The event will be held from 11:30-1:30 at the Moot Court in McGill’s Faculty of Law (Chancellor Day Hall, 3644 Peel Street).

Panelists will represent a wide variety of perspectives.

-          Zuwa Matado, Zimbabwean Law Student

-          Dr. John Galaty, professor of Anthropology, McGill University

-          Dr. Frédéric Mégret, specialist in International Human Rights Law, McGill University

-          Karim Laz (Africa Regional Officer, The International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development)

Following the discussion, a light luncheon will be served in the atrium. We hope to see you there!

On Friday, March 19^th, 2010, from 11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m.,  the McGill network will host the Rights and Democracy Network Eastern Regional Event, in collaboration with the other delegations in Montreal. The event will be dedicated to « Celebrating Innovations in Human Rights ».

During the event, McGill’s delegation hopes to engage a panel of speakers to discuss the human rights situation in Zimbabwe and initiatives that have been undertaken to address human rights violations. We will also be showcasing our Books Without Borders project.

Hello Everyone/Bonjour a tous et a toutes,

The Delegation of the Rights & Democracy Network at McGill is holding its General Meeting on Thursday, February 19, 12-1pm at the Law Faculty – 3644 Peel Street (room to be confirmed).

We will be discussing the mandate of the R&D Network, as well as hold general elections for the incoming R&D Network Executive. If you would like to run for a position on the Executive for the current semester, we would invite you to make a 1-2 minute presentation introducing yourself, your background, and a brief explanation of your interest in running for the respective position(s). If you are unable to attend on the 19th, but would like to run for a position on the Executive, we would invite you to e-mail a brief statement (no more than 150 words) to Alex at alex.yiu@mail.mcgill.ca before Feb 19 outlining the above items. This statement will be read and considered for election purposes by those in attendance at the meeting. I

The Executive positions include:

1) Lead Delegate; 2) Administrate Delegate; 3) Web Delegate; 4) Communications Delegate; 5) Equality Delegate; and 6) Finance Delegate

If you would like to be involved with the Delegation in a non-Executive capacity, please also feel free to express in which area you would like to be involved.

We will also be discussing programming activities for the Delegation this year and are excited to discuss some potential project ideas with you all. Of course, if you have thought of a potential project(s), we’d love to hear about it!
