General Meeting #2

Hello everyone,

The term is ending and we here at Rights & Democracy UBC hope it’s been a great term for all of you. Before we wish you good luck, we’d like to share a couple of updates.

1) Our end-of-the-term meeting will be happening on:

This Friday Nov. 19th

SUB 224

4:00-5:30pm

We will be planning our upcoming Panties for Peace event happening in January. Even though pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been released, Burma still has a long way to go in terms of human rights and democratic development. We can help by raising awareness through our Panties for Peace campaign. For more information, please visit http://pantiesforpeace.ca/ . If you can’t make it to the planning session don’t worry, all we ask is that you buy a pair of female underwear during Christmas shopping! This is also a perfect chance for you to voice your concerns and pitch in ideas on what you would like to see from R&D UBC.

2) The University of Victoria Rights and Democracy Delegation would like to warmly invite a member of our delegation to attend the 2011 Western Regional Event in Victoria, B.C., from Thursday evening, January 20 to Sunday afternoon, January 23, 2011. The theme of this year’s Western Regional Event is “Sharing the Global Commons: Ensuring Democratic Access to Resources”. This is an all expenses paid trip (courtesy of Rights and Democracy). If you’re interested, please email us at rightsdemocracyubc@gmail.com for more information.

Finally, we’d like to thank you all for the support you’ve given so far. Good luck on your final exams and enjoy the holidays!

1st General Meeting

Hey everyone,

We would like to thank you for signing up and visiting our stand during Clubs Days. We are a very new club and it is a great confidence booster to see so many of you interested. Having said this, we would love you see you again and tell you more about Rights & Democracy at our First General Meeting.

Where: SUB 212A

When: Monday Sept. 27th, 4:00-5:00pm

The Rights & Democracy network coordinator Elana Wright will be joining us. If you do decide to officially join our delegation by the end of the meeting, we will ask for your signature on the two AMS general waivers and a club fee of $5. Please bring exactly $5 as we will not have a float.

As you may or may not know, we are looking to fill 3 executive positions this year.  If you are interested, please fill in the nomination form and hand it in on the day of the meeting or email it to one of the executives. You’ll be asked to make a short campaign speech at the Icebreaker, which is on Oct. 1st, the Friday of the same week.

If you are unable to make the General Meeting, please contact one of the executive and let us know whether or not you are interested in officially joining the club.

Once again, thank you for your interest in Rights and Democracy!
